Newcastle uses WeCycle data in successful bid for cycling investment funding
Newcastle City Council has won £10.6m in funding from the DfT's Cycle City Ambition Fund to build on the excellent progress it has already made on its transformational long-term cycle strategy. The biggest ever cycling survey

Thousands of cyclists used the WeCycle app to reveal their routes and when they travelled. The app's wheels were always spinning away in the background, figuring out how the users were moving so they didn't have to remember to start and stop it or tell it what they were doing.

Bringing funding to your cycle routes

The UK government and transport authorities have pledged £ 1bn for cycling safety, but do not know where people cycle. The community canvas generated by the app shows where and when people cycled, and where they had to share space with other road users, and so where investment will have the biggest impact on safety.

Making our roads safer for everyone

Better cycling infrastructure also means fewer accidents for motorists and pedestrians, and improves traffic flow. The data contributions from other road users also help make journeys faster, more enjoyable and safer for everyone.
