3. Accept the terms and conditions and opt-in
Tick the box to accept the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy, and then click the green button to consent to share your data. There are links in the app to each of these for you to review during onboarding, and afterwards.
We appreciate all the users who consent to the collection of data for the purpose of improving transport networks. Just as we respect those users who chose not to.
We do not sell any data to any marketing or advertising bodies, ever. Accelerating the decarbonisation of transportation and making these systems work better for us all are far too big a prizes to forsake for poor quality revenue.
Additional location permissions
After the app has been on your phone for a few hours, you might be asked whether the app should access location in the background. Please ensure you select 'Always'.

4. Grant permissions
Click 'OK - Got it' and your phone will show two or three pop-ups for you to grant permissions required by the app.
On each pop-up, please click 'Allow', or 'Always'.
If a pop-up does not have one of these options, choose 'While using the app'.
Getting the PERMISSIONS right is probably as important as your account details. It allows the app to do all the automation of collecting data to help figure out how you travel around. Be that by car, public transit, bike or foot.
The tedium of keeping a travel diary of your trip details is why we've sought to automate this as much as possible. It should make it easier to run the app for longer periods and thereby capture a more diverse range of driving scenarios.

5a. Android - Settings>Apps>EVCurious>Permissions
Just in case you can compare what your accepted permissions look like against this screenshot and expected outcome.
If you've never looked this deep inside your system and app settings, we always recommend looking at other apps such as Facebook/Meta, Snapchat, WhatsApp, Instagram, CityMapper and many more.
It's always interesting to see what function are being accessed.
Users might wonder why we need access to files and media? It's so that we can read, write, modify and delete the travels data, personalisation and privacy settings related to EVCurious and only EVCurious. The shared storage refers to any memory on your device that will be shared by all the services running on it.
The location related permissions as mentioned already are mission critical and the data coming from your smartphone sensors includes: GPS (Global Positioning System), accelerometer (it's what helps orientate your screen as well figure out what angle your device is at in three dimensions), magnetometer (less common and measures magnetic lines) and barometer (even more uncommon and measures atmospheric pressure).
All the other permissions are general systems related activities.

Users might wonder why we need access to Siri & Search. It's actually a voice activated capability that Apple likes all their apps to offer.
Notifications are for when you might pause the app running. While Background app refresh is key to operating while not be open and in the foreground. Mobile Data refers to the ability to connect to online services and where the app connects to our servers.
The location related permissions as mentioned already are mission critical and the reason why we ask you to choose 'Always' is so we have a steady supply of breadcrumbs. We'll manage down then how much sensor data is required.
