About EVCuriousWhat is the EVCurious app?
It’s a tool designed to help existing owners of fossil-fuel powered cars (also known as internal combustion engine or ICE cars) to discover if their personal driving demands could be met by instead switching to an electric vehicle (EV).
needsowners automatically capture your journeys, encourage public transit and active travel choices and it’s main function of isolating and analysing car journeys. primarily isolate out and , calories burnt from active and delivers questionnaires related to your travel. It helps transport operators and local authorities make the transport system better.

Who should install the EVCurious app?
Anyone who wants to take a data led approach to testing out if an EV could fit in their lives. For instance ould like to challenge or test out if the daily, weekly and monthly drives they make could be roads, trains or any other part of our transport system could be better.

What will I get out of the EVCurious app?
A better understanding of how your existing driving needs could potentially be met by an EV.
A travel diary that shows your public transit, car and active travels in app.
Data and insights designed to help you consider migration to an EV car.
A map that shows where you have driven and any nearby charging points that are relevant to your very own routes.
The ability to see how different EVs will impact the projected intervals between charges, how many trips could how many of those trips can make end destinations.
A breakdown showing the carbon footprint generated by each mode of major transport used, the calories from active travel and a projection of cost savings driving an EV over a fossil fuel car.

What does the EVCurious app do?
Its essentially a virtual EV test drive which tried to model for your very personal driving habits analyses and captures smartphone sensor data from the GPS and accelerometer, then processes this raw data, identifies the legs of a trip, and automatically classifies if they are car, bike, train, bus, tram, tube/subway/metro, plane and walking.
Then applying further analyses to just the car trips to simulate how this would apply to EV ownership.

Who is behind EVCurious?
EVCurious is developed and cared for by the team behind TravelAi. There are transport decarbonisation and EV groups that are being partnered with.

App FeaturesHow does the app work?
It uses your speed, location and orientation data from the GPS and accelerometer smartphone sensors. This raw data is turned into legs, trips and a pattern of movement detecting your mode of transport and route automatically.
There is about a 4-12hr delay between your actual travel events having occurred and them showing up in the app.
Further analyses are then applied to just the driving trips and data to simulate EV ownership.

How accurate is the app?
EVCurious correctly identifies 70-80% of journeys, with smartphone model, operating system version and the permissions enabled play outsize roles in those outcomes.
It’s critical to have all the app permissions and ‘Always allow’ features enabled.
It’s also possible for a user to edit the travel journal to make it even more accurate.
The work around the EV simulation is ongoing and constantly being updated. In test comparison with othe

How can I help improve the app?
If you can, please correct errors in the travel journal and add any journeys that it misses because your corrections can help us learn to detect journeys better and account for outlier events.
Please send any other feedback by clicking on the menu button in the top left and then clicking ‘Send feedback’. Or send us an email at ‘feedback@travelai.co.uk’.

How can I correct errors in the travel journal?
Click on the row with the wrong information in the Journeys screen and make corrections in the pop up.
Please note to simplify this step, these changes will be displayed as straight point-to-point lines.
How can I add missing journeys or legs to the travel journal?
If the whole journey is missing, please wait for about 24 hours after your journey because it might appear automatically. If the whole journey is still missing after 24 hours, please click the floating plus button at the bottom right of the ‘Journeys’ screen. If an existing journey is missing a leg, then please click the ‘add leg’ button at the bottom of the legs of that journey.
Please note to simplify this step, these changes will be displayed as straight point-to-point lines.

Why do my motorbike rides show up as car journeys?
The app cannot detect the difference between car and motorbike journeys. Please click on the row in the ‘Journey’ screen to correct the details.

What phones does the app work on?
iPhones and Android phones.
Will the app work wherever I am in the world?
Yes that is the objective as long as you have a data or WiFi connection and all relevant permissions enabled. The app will be able to automatically detect your journeys in many (+50) but not all countries around the world.
Will the app use my data connection when I'm roaming abroad?
The app will continue to detect travel abroad, but don’t worry it will not use your mobile data allowance while abroad unless you have enabled data roaming on your phone.
Will EVCurious work if I turn my phone off, for example in an aeroplane?
The app will try and detect flights even when your phone is off or in aircraft mode. Of course this does introduce some challenges with no data coming from any of the smartphones sensors. If you turn your phone off on other modes of transport, the app will still attempt to figure out your travel, but it may not be as accurate.
Do I need to keep GPS on?
You must enable GPS on your phone to allow the app to detect your travel. The app uses GPS intermittently to reduce power demands and the software will aim to avoid running the GPS continuously (‘hot’) because of the battery drain.
Will the app drain my battery?
The app uses between 2-15% of your battery depending on the length of your travels. While we make every effort to keep battery use to a minimum, please charge your phone every day/night.
What permissions does the app require on my phone and why?
Depending on your phone operating system, the app might ask permission to:
1) Access your location so that it can take all the hard work out of creating a travel diary.
2) Ask for permission to access precise locations which in turn helps with accuracy.
3) To post a notification in case a permission has been switched off that’s needed.
4) Access your phone’s storage so that it can read and write your travel data on the phone or memory card specific only to EVCurious. Operating systems and app store terms ensure it’s never possible to access data from other apps, contacts, photos or other media.
5) Allow the app to manage its battery use so that it can work its magic using as little power as possible in the background.
